How long should Sabrina’s hair be? Sabrina says Sinead O’ Connor short. Jamie says Rapunzel long.

Busy weekends from here on out...
7/29/10

How is it already the end of July? My weeks, and more importantly, my weekends are flying by. Last weekend, Shirley (Jamie's mom) came to Kansas City to help me with some important wedding craft projects that involved sewing. While I do have a sewing machine, I'm still a little intimidated by sewing projects since they involve so much calculation. If you miscalculate, your entire project is ruined. I find with paper projects it is much easier to cover up a mistake.

Early Saturday morning, Shirley and I went to Jo-Ann Fabrics and Hobby Lobby to search for fabric for purses and tulle. The most important project was the wedding veil since I still do not have one and was not interested in spending over $100 on one. After finding the right color, we spent $7 for four yards of tulle. Those four yards were enough tulle for a cathedral-length veil and a shoulder-length blusher...that's right $7. The purses we were making are for the bridesmaids and the program attendants. I found an adorable pattern online, but had no idea where to begin. With Shirley's help, we figured out the amount of material, the type of materials needed (I had no idea what interface or boning was) and more importantly how to put everything together. Since Shirley had come SUPER-prepared (bringing a sewing machine, surger, cutting mats, and containers of thread), once we got started on the purses we were able to start an assembly line.

After spending all day Saturday and most of Sunday morning on the sewing projects, I was done crafting for the weekend. Turns out I was also done packing for the weekend...oh wait, I hadn't started. SO, my hope is that this weekend will be a better balance of crafting and packing. This weekend I plan on finishing the rehearsal dinner invitations and the programs. Then, I will spend quality time in the kitchen...no, not cooking but packing. The next few weekends will consist of more packing and then moving to Denver! I can't wait!

Less than 50 days and counting til the big day!!
